The Dudley Open 2000 - the Millennium Challenge
Glorious blue skies and a stupendous natural setting
for the opening day of the legendary tournament
Taymouth Castle, 3 June 2000
The crunch of tyres on freshly raked gravel was the only sound to disturb the early morning tranquillity of Taymouth Castle, the glorious setting to one of golf's most exciting challenges of the new millennium. The early mists were just lifting from the damp grass as the contenders drew into the club for the classic annual battle - the Dudley Open 2000, which attracted some of the most exceptional and charismatic golfers the public will be privileged to see in action this year. This exclusive invitation tournament is one of the European circuit's undiscovered gems, and every year draws players keen to win one of golf's top accolades: the highly coveted Dudley Open trophy, a unique figurine entitled "The Man and His Shaft", which was commissioned by the Committee (at considerable expense) from a local Newhaven artist, using only the finest materials such as prime Tasmanian alpha bronze and top-grade imported Sicilian marble.
