As always, (honest Brian) Jennings, seeing the opportunity to make some mischief (and some money), having ran a book the previous night on the day's golf, paid out any winnings and with High acting as his 'runner' opened bets on the Sunday to come. Both men exchanged tic tac signals from opposite ends of the room as money was placed and odds were calculated. Jennings was keen to ensure that there was not a repeat of the 'Arran disaster of 2002' when the Inn keeper of the Arran Bar soaked him for a monkey (whatever that means). 'He was a roaster' said the man from Carntyne. It may have been 'a warmer'.

McLean had a few drinks with us before going off for a spot of R&R with a mysterious lady who came to pick him up at the dead of night (more voodoo happenings?)

He left his open-top sports car at Kipford that night. High generously offered to take the car next morning on to our next venue, saying how much he liked the feel of the wind in his hair when driving. Fortunately he had the sense to take Jennings with him as a passenger so he could at least savour the experience second hand.

Clarke donned the traditional overnight leader 'flowery shirt', Smith having relinquished it from last year's competition. Looks like it might need some new buttons next year. As with High and Sparks' traditional highland dress it attracted many admiring glances from onlookers and probably a few wasps into the bargain. All in all we were a very colourful group that evening, retiring to our beds in the wee small hours and with Monaghan tied to his bunk to avoid a repetition of his previous night's somnambulism we all had a good night's rest. About four hours.
