Sunday - Round 3 - Murcar

Murcar Links Golf Club was founded in 1909, and, like so many courses of this era, was later revised by James Braid. Located on a classic stretch of links land with huge sand dunes, crumpled fairways, whins, burns and heather. There are some magnificent views from the elevated tees across the North Sea and to Aberdeen City in the south.

Not for the beginner or the faint hearted, Murcar Links is a par 71 (sss 72) natural Championship links, which represents a truly challenging test of golf. To play it requires every shot in the book and if the wind is up, a few more besides!

It's a rugged course with lots of natural of appeal and asks some serious questions. The fairways are sometimes cruelly tight and the ball has a habit of bouncing off the knolls and into vicious rough. Add this to the odd blind shot and you can find yourself leaving quite a few balls behind for the members. The greens are most exquisitely sited on raised tables and amongst the dunes. To make life even more difficult, many are protected by pot bunkers too.
