From there an elevated tee down to a postage stamp green framed by trees, a ditch and a pond .definitely not for the faint-hearted! Then a section of rather flat swampy terrain with longer holes, a short but difficult dog-leg on the17th virtually through ninety degrees around a plantation, and a fine 18th to finish with. Many people suffered at what seemed to be an easy hole on paper, hole 8.
In the morning round the scores were neck and neck, Wilson at 32 points just ahead of Sparks and Maclean at 31, Smith at 30, and new boys on the block Erdall and Clarke carding a very respectable 27 and 26 respectively. A fairly tight middle field meant anyone was in with a chance.
So after a light lunch served by very friendly staff, it was Smith and High to tee off. The Wee Man had a poor showing, but Wilson piled on the pressure with a tremendous 33 points, which Smith equalled. Jennings and Bates raised their game to score what they thought was an inspired round of 32 points, until Sparks and Clarke both came in with a hugely impressive 38 points on their cards. In the clubhouse, the scores at the end of two rounds looked like this:
